CONFERENCE VENUE. The 52nd Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE 2019) will be held on the central campus of Leipzig University, Augustusplatz 10, Leipzig. Augustusplatz is the most central square of Leipzig, ten minutes walking distance from the main station (Leipzig Hauptbahnhof), and has the Opera, the Gewandhaus and the Paulinum (university church/aula) in addition to the main building of the university (Augusteum). The talks will be in Hörsaal Building and Seminar Building, two buildings that are immediately adjacent to the Augusteum. Registration will be at the Reception Desk in the Augusteum.

PROGRAMME. All the information concerning the scientific programme can be found at You will receive a printed copy of the schedule and the extended programme with your conference dossier at the Reception Desk. The Book of Abstracts is only available on the conference website

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION. Free public transportation for the participants of the conference is arranged from 20 August (12:00h) until 25 August (12:00h), within the city of Leipzig and also to the airport. To use this free service, you will need your name tag, which you will receive when registering. Please show your name tag (and the bar code which is contained in it) to the ticket controller when asked.

For transportation from the airport before you register, we sent you a Public Transport Voucher (pdf) as a preliminary ticket, which you should have received in your mailbox last Friday. The document should be printed out and shown upon request with a valid personal ID. (If you did not receive it and want to use public transport, please check your junk mail folder or contact the local organizers.) After registration, your name tag will serve as a ticket.

REGISTRATION. The Reception Desk is situated on the ground floor of the Augusteum building, Augustusplatz 10, between the Gewandhaus and the Paulinum (university church/aula). The opening times of the Reception Desk are as follows: Tuesday (August 20): 16:00-20:00; Wednesday through Friday (August 21-23): 8:00-19:00; Saturday (August 24): 8:30-14:00.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS. Oral presentations last 25 minutes. The actual presentation should be 20 minutes, leaving 5 minutes for questions. 5 minutes are reserved for room changes. It is recommended to copy your presentation on the desktop of the computer in your session room in advance, during the coffee or lunch breaks, at least 10 minutes before the whole session starts. All the rooms have a computer. We recommend that you bring your presentation as a PDF file. You can also plug in your own laptop. There will be student assistants who will help you if necessary.

WI-FI. Eduroam is available in all campus buildings. If you do not have access to Eduroam, you will be able to use the university wifi through a special service that is explained in the Welcome document.

POSTER SESSION. The poster session will take place on Thursday 22 August, overlapping with the morning coffee break. It will take place in the foyer of the Augusteum, from 10:30 to 11:30. Posters should be of A0 size (84 x 118 cm); they are usually vertical but horizontal posters will also fit onto our poster boards. Presenters  can  bring  and  pin  their  posters between  8:00 and 10:00 (we will provide pins). Poster presenters can send their poster to the conference manager if they wish to have their poster uploaded to the conference website ( (For printing posters locally, we recommend, who charge €26 per A0 poster.)

HANDOUTS. We expect around 600 participants distributed over 15 parallel sessions. So, if you are bringing handouts, it would be advisable to bring around 20 copies for a presentation in the general session or in a short (one-day) workshop; for long (1.5 day) workshops count more, around 40. We recommend that you print them before you come to Leipzig. It will not be possible to print out handouts at the conference office, but there are printing shops in the vicinity of the university building ( in Ritterstraße 5, CampusCopy in Universitätsstraße 18,; both are closed on Saturdays). Printing is also available in many hotels in the city centre.

SLIDES. All rooms will have computers, and it may be easiest if you bring your presentation on a memory stick in PDF format. If you want to use your own computer, it would be good to have a VGA connection for the projection, as we may not be able to fully support HDMI. (You may also mail a PDF file to the local organizers, so that they can install it on the computer in time for your talk.)

RECEIPTS and CERTIFICATES. Your receipt of payment will be sent electronically on Monday 19 August. If you detect any mistake in the receipt, you are invited to let our Treasurer know during the conference (in the Conference Office, S 201). The certificates of attendance will be sent after SLE 2019, on Monday 26 August. They will contain your name, your affiliation and the title of your presentation.

PUBLISHERS. There will be representatives of Benjamins, Brill, Cambridge University Press, De Gruyter, Edinburgh University Press, Language Science Press, Oxford University Press, Springer.

YOUR OWN BOOKS. We will also have an exhibit of books published by other publishers that appeared in 2018 or 2019. If you published or edited such a book, you may bring a display copy that will be shown on a table next to the Reception Desk. The receptionists will watch the books. (If you are a journal editor, you may also bring a recent issue of a journal that you edit.)
